Bighorn Sheep Festival

Celebrate Colorado's state mammal—the Rocky Mountain bighorn sheep. The Town of Georgetown and Colorado Parks and Wildlife offer opportunities to watch and learn about one of Colorado’s oldest bighorn sheep herds. Plus, speakers and short wildlife educational programs for the whole family! Artisans and shop owners in Georgetown will showcase their wildlife-related art, gifts, crafts, and other goods. What to Bring: Most of the activities are outside - be prepared for November in Georgetown! Activities: -Wildlife viewing stations with volunteers to teach you how to find and view bighorn sheep in their natural habitat -Free face painting in the park -Children can take part in the Bighorn Sheep Scavenger Hunt for a chance to learn about the bighorn sheep “Rock Stars of the Rockies” and wind prizes -Make sheep horns of your own to take home or get your face painted like a sheep -Learn about bighorn behavior while dancing the bighorn sheep hokey pokey with Elbert the Bighorn -Sit by the fire, listen to live music, and visit partner organization booths in the park -Visit local museums, shops, and restaurants -Shop for wildlife-related art, gifts, crafts, and other merchandise in downtown Georgetown -Enjoy mountain views and learn about Georgetown’s history and bighorn sheep on a Georgetown Loop Railroad tour. -CPW volunteers will be on hand to answer questions. All in the gorgeous historic mountain setting of the Georgetown-Silver Plume National Historic Landmark District!
